Use Mejl on iPhone

Use the unread feed and inbox gestures to get through mail one conversation at a time.
Updated August 24, 2026
01

Work through the unread feed

Open the unread-feed button at the top of the inbox. Swipe vertically to move through unread conversations one at a time. Use the menu in the header to show all unread mail or only one view.
02

Move on without losing the thread

A conversation is marked read when you reach it in the feed. Use Mark as unread if you want to return to it later. Reply, forward, change its views, trash it, or mark it as spam without leaving the feed.
03

Start fresh with an existing inbox

When Mejl offers Fresh Start, you can mark the unread backlog already in Gmail as read or keep it untouched. Nothing is deleted or archived, and older mail remains searchable. Keep the progress screen open until the update finishes.
04

Use inbox gestures

In the inbox list, swipe right to mark a conversation read or unread. Swipe left to move it to Trash, or to restore it when you are already viewing Trash. Pull down on the list or feed to refresh.
05

Choose which views notify you

Open the account menu, select Settings, then choose Notifications. Turn alerts on only for the inbox and views that should interrupt you. If alerts are blocked, open the iPhone settings from Mejl and allow notifications there.

Fresh Start changes Gmail

Choosing to mark the existing backlog as read updates every unread message currently in Gmail. Mejl asks you to confirm because it cannot undo that change automatically.
